Once upon a time, there was a majestic Castle where wedding dreams began, and Markree Castle is where dreams do come true! From the moment we saw it 30 years ago, we were in love with it. So we booked it in January 2023 and, 15 months later, got married in all its splendour and beauty. Every bed unique and beautiful drawing rooms to relax with our guests. Then the food which was better than any Michelin restaurant in the whole of Ireland. The staff are the real reason that makes Markree Castle magical. From Nicholas, Deirdre, Eoin and Emer, who plan everything for you and do everything on the day. All we can say is that everyone was wonderful and caring to all our guests. No wonder it is now the best wedding venue in Ireland.

We cannot praise the entire staff at Markree Castle highly enough (in particular Deirdre), who were beyond helpful and responsive with any questions we had in the lead up to our wedding. They have everything down to a fine art, from the scheduling, timing, catering, drinks and use of the venue! Every guest was blown away by the venue and what it had to offer. We would have zero doubt in recommending Markree Castle to anyone as a venue for their wedding.

From the moment we got engaged and started to plan our wedding day we were both in agreement that we wanted to give all the special people in our lives a special treat and ensure they were wined and dined for the day. We initially began our wedding venue hunt ruling out Markree as an option as one of our best friends had their wedding there and we wanted to do something different, however after travelling around the West of Ireland looking at venues we soon realised nothing was going to compare to Markree, and we were blessed to have a dream wedding venue on our doorstep in beautiful Sligo. One of the most unique aspects about Markree compared to other venues was the team, and the fact that you could do so many personalised touches to make the venue yours on the day. Nothing we suggested was a problem for the team, and they were so accommodating to all our random ideas. On the day our guests were blown away but the venue, the overall experience was compared as something out of a Holywood movie! Everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. It amazed us both as the bride and groom how the staff made us feel like we were so important in the lead up and on the day when they have so many other weddings happening. A highlight of the day was definitely our first dance outside in the courtyard underneath the fairy lights and stars which was break-taking. We could have travelled anywhere in the world for our wedding day and I truly believe nothing could have compared to the experience we and our guests had.

We had the most amazing Halloween wedding in Markree Castle. The venue is stunning that goes without saying. The castle is breathtaking day and night. However, Deirdre Nicholas and the rest of the team are what really makes it so special. While there we were made feel like we owned the castle. The food was so amazing all our guests commented on it and every tiny detail was taken care of. Our little dog Belle stole the show on the day and the staff spoilt her rotten, she had the run of the place. We would highly recommend Markree and all its amazing team! We are sorry this took so long to be written but we came back from honeymoon with a little surprise of our own and have been busy getting ready for the unexpected arrival. We hope to get back to Markree sometime in the future to relive the amazing time we had.

We got married here in August 2019 and I cannot praise Deirdre, Nicholas and the whole team highly enough. The whole experience was amazing, they went above and beyond to make the day perfect for us. The castle is like staying in a 5 star hotel, the standard of rooms and amenities are exemplary. The food was fantastic and we literally had no complaints from any guest, people were blown away by the castle and team. We can't recommend it highly enough. Thank you so much, if we could do it all over again we would!!

Deirdre, Nicholas and all the team at Markree ensured we had our perfect wedding weekend in this beautiful castle. Planning the weekend was made simple with the help of Deirdre's expertise and helpful manner and it was always a joy visiting the castle when we needed to! The day ran without a hitch, our guests were blown away by the standard of the food and we couldn't have been happier with the service. The entertainment area downstairs was perfect for dancing the night away and lots of quiter spaces for people to have a catch up too! It rained all day but thankfully, we were able to get beautiful photos in the castle and in sheltered areas in the grounds. We had our second day celebrations in Markree also and we all felt that having that extra night was invaluable to really soak up the castle vibes and enjoy our stay.

We had our wedding at Markree Castle on 28/11/2019. All we can say is that everything was spectacular! Nicholas, Deirdre, Alex, Emer and the team were incredibly professional and friendly and couldn’t do enough for you! There are very few words to describe how wonderful everyone at Markree Castle is! They made the whole wedding planning process so easy and kept surprising us on the day with little details. Our guests keep saying how wonderful Markree Castle is and how wonderful the staff are. Markree Castle was the first and last venue we considered. Everything about the castle has the wow factor. Prior to the wedding day we were invited to a tasting day to help us select the menu. There was so much choice but not too much as to overwhelm you. We took a tour of the rooms and were able to allocate them to the guests that were staying in the castle on the night. Nicholas and Deirdre Ryan are the coordinators in Markree Castle. Deirdre met with me several times to discuss my ideas and how she could help make them work. On the day of the wedding I had no worries. Deirdre and my wedding planner Nicole Cosgrove worked seamlessly together to make sure EVERYTHING was in place. Really, I cant stress this enough, the staff at Markree were exceptional. From decoration details, vendor organisation, guest management, flower deliveries, food for the wedding parties and the meal on the day. Wow, just wow. We had our wedding on a Thursday and we have no regrets. We had a slightly lower price than if we had it at the weekend which is always a bonus. The entire wedding party got ready in Markree Castle and we had our ceremony in the chapel on site. Everything was so convenient. Best of all, our dog Nova was given free reign around the castle and was allowed stay with us for the night. We highly recommend Markree Castle as a venue and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone there for making our day so magical.

Markree Castle is a fantastic venue but your attention to detail The brilliant team allowed the day to flow seamlessly. Agi & all of the staff were so attentive, friendly & professional. So many of our guests have remarked on how they couldn't find a fault with any aspect of the day. Our only regret is that we didn't get to spend more time appreciating the Castle on the day.

I could not leave it any longer to leave a review. Wow!! This is probably the only word that we can use to describe our wedding experience at Markree. We honestly could not recommend this place highly enough. From the minute we viewed this venue all the way to the day after our wedding, we cannot fault the service we received. In the weeks leading up to our wedding, Deirdre was fantastic and very efficient in answering our queries and getting back to our emails. Although we both live in Scotland, we found the planning and organisation of our wedding relatively effortless due to this. Nothing was ever too much to ask!! The day before our wedding and the day of our wedding, Nicholas co-ordinated the whole set up and running of the day making the whole process smooth and what we deem to be perfect. I have to compliment the waiting staff and bar staff for their amazing warmth and service on the day. We had quite a few comments from our guests describing the impeccable service they received. There were also many comments about the skill of the cocktail making and shot pouring in the bar area. The food was second to none. Although I may be slightly bias, I honestly think this was the best wedding food I have ever had. I must also mention the house red which also went down a treat. Thanks again for making our wedding day everything we imagined it would be and quite frankly the best weekend of our lives.

Well Wow Wow Wow was the first words that every single one of my wedding guests said the whole way through the day and the next morning, and still say even months later. Both myself & Chris had the best day of our lives and that is saying something after being together for 26 years and waiting to find the perfect place and we did - perfect in every single detail. Having fallen in love with the castle when we returned to live in Ireland in 2000, we always came for family occasions to celebrate here and when I heard the castle was for sale my dreams of getting married here one day we're lost. I heard a family who own other hotels had bought it and at first I thought they would ruin it but I was so wrong instead they took it apart piece by piece and put it back together so it will stand proud for another 500 years. A truly Magical Authentic Castle in which to remember your special day forever, Amazing Team Agi & Patricia & all who worked on the day. The food was first class both on the day and the wedding breakfast the next day. I know I have gone on a bit but I would say so much more if I could. If you really do want to feel like King & Queen of your castle then make this yours for the day. Thank you guys you are all amazing.

I wanted to thank you all with a special thanks to Nicholas and Alex, all our guests commented on your wonderful and friendly staff, and of course the castle itself they were blown away by it and Roisin- she was a hit!! I wanted to say a huge thanks for all your help, it was the most special 2 days. Delighted to hear Markree will be opening in the spring we will look forward to coming back.

We got married in December 2018 and had an absolute blast! Teresa and the team were very attentive and helped make the day a huge success. We went for the seafood platter, winter veggie soup, salmon, beef filet and berry crumble and had no complaints. I would suggest you explore the grounds as much as possible in the am and pre plan photos in advance of the day as the day goes so fast and you can miss out on some shots that you wanted. Overall I would definitely recommend Markree!!

Bringing 80 Americans to Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day weekend seems like a daunting task. It wasn’t. The staff at Markree made it all so simple. From our first meeting with the wedding coordinator, through the year of planning, up until we all left the castle, everything was seamless. Not a day goes by that a guest or a friend who just sees a picture is blown away by the beauty of the venue. We loved our experience with Markree. I want to go back and get married every year!

Absolutely fabulous castle venue. Rooms were amazing and Deirdre the coordinator was excellent. Nothing was too much for her. The chef is amazing using simply good food without too many additions a quality in my opinion. Good produce speaks for itself. Stayed 2 nights and would have loved to stay for longer. I could not recommend this venue for your wedding enough. Thank you to all at Markree for everything.

Myself and my wife had our wedding here at the end of October. From the moment we drove down the driveway we knew that Markree was the place for our wedding. The Markree team were great support throughout the wedding organisation and were extremely accommodating from our first meeting. The venue itself is amazing and all our guests were extremely impressed with the castle, the guest rooms and the food. Would definitely recommend Markree Castle to a friend and am hoping to be invited someone else's wedding there in the near future!

Sean and I had our wedding here in September. It was fantastic from start to finish. Everything was amazing. The staff are wonderful, The food was amazing, what a brilliant chef. I cannot recommend this beautiful gem of a place enough, our guests keep telling us how amazing their stay was. We will always remember our wedding day as being so special, Thank you to all the staff for a truly magical experience. We will be back to visit. We have stayed in so many fabulous castles around Ireland and this is definitely 5 star and the best.
